Not of this World

John 15:18  If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
John 15:19  If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
John 15:20  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also.
John 15:21  But all these things will they do unto you for my name's sake, because they know not him that sent me.

Jesus was teaching His disciples to not be surprised by the hatred of the world.  Jesus reminded them that the world hated Him first.  We live in a world system that, for the most part, is totally opposed to the things of God.  Jesus told the disciples if they were focused upon the things of this world the world would love them.  If they kept their focus upon the things of God they would earn the world's hatred and animosity.  Jesus knew that His disciples would face persecution in the years ahead.  Jesus told them not to be surprised by it.  As His followers they could expect no less than He had to face.  Jesus explains the basis for this hatred by the world in the fact that the world doesn't know God the Father.  The world has their own Father and it's not the Heavenly Father, but the god of this world.  John 8:44  How is the world treating you today?  If your answer is rough, then don't be surprised.  Keep your eyes focused upon Christ and His soon return and remember He is always with you!
