"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"
The word sanctify in this verse means, "To set apart." We are to give God a special place of honor in our hearts. It is a place that is reserved for God and God alone. We should take time every day to meditate on God's Word and the presence of God in our life. If we develop a constant awareness of God's presence in our life it will keep us from sin. This verse teaches that we are to be ready to give an answer to every man. We absolutely must know what we believe and why we believe it. Satan is constantly throwing false messages at us to see if we will allow one to sink in and affect us. If we are confident in the truth of God because we have studied and meditated upon it, then Satan's attempt at deceiving us will fail. When we have a chance to share God's Word with others we need to be able to explain why we believe and why they should believe. Their eternal destiny hangs in the balance.
